The Butterfly Life Cycle



Hello Families and Friends!

Last week we read about the butterfly life cycle! We read a story, completed a vocabulary activity, then sorted butterflies, cocoons and caterpillars, made a life cycle wheel, an adapted book and then did a comprehension check-in. The students did an excellent job learning about this new information.


         
 
   






We also completed a Scholastic News article "When a Rainbow Shines". The students were very engaged in the article and used their individualized communication boards and systems to be able to identify the two things needed to make a rainbow: water & sun. Some friends used objects while learning to represent the sun, water and rainbows!


    



Reminders:

  •  Thursday March 21st the school will be celebrating World Down Syndrome Day! We are celebrating our friend Tyler by wearing crazy socks and showing our love, support and understanding of him and other people who have Down syndrome.
  • Tuesday March 26th at SHS there will be the LaPerche Music Concert.
    We have been practicing in our music class
    • K- 2 will perform from 5:30-6:15
    • 3rd, 4th & 5th grade will perform between 6:30-7:30
Please let me know as soon as possible if your child will be attending the concert so I can plan and provide support if needed during their performance.

Body Parts!

  Hello Families! Here comes a wonderful catch-up post for you! First of all, our friend Isabelle celebrated her 6th birthday in the beginning of January. Happy birthday Isabelle!! We have been working hard and enjoying our new read aloud activities and stories. Last week we read "Sam & Penny" which reviewed basic parts of the body. We all used our communication devices to identify different core words and a part of the body on each page.  Currently we're reading "Parts of the Body" book this week. Our current story is reinforcing body part identification.  We sorted body parts vs NOT body parts by using yes/no on our communication devices and with visuals as well. They did a great job and it helped to reinforce our new concepts. Another activity we completed was identify the 5 senses and which body part is used. Polar Bears!

  Hello Families! This week we learned all about Polar Bears! The students were so engaged, they really love learning about all different kinds of animals. We started a "Animals That Live In The Cold" journal where they'll showcase the different activities we do and the animals we learn about. This week we started off with our vocabulary page, a Scholastic News article about polar bears, and labeling the different parts of a polar bear.  Our Scholastic News article reinforced the new vocabulary introduced earlier in the week. Everyone took turns pointing out different parts of the pictures and key words.  After we projected the article we re-read a paper copy. We glued on pictures to describe each fact presented in the article. We learned that polar bears are great swimmers, they can walk on ice, and they have dens to sleep and keep warm and there's sometimes cubs inside too! We practiced our simple graphing skills. Thanksgiving Fun!

  Hello Families! Here's our fun catch up of our fun Thanksgiving activities! We read one of my favorite books, Turkey Trouble. It's a great story about a turkey who tries to disguise himself as different animals to avoid being eaten. Everyone was able to practice their animal identification on their communication devices and turn taking. After reading we did a fun emergent reader activity and coloring page as connecting activities. We made a classroom "Thankful Turkey".  Each student made their own feather and pasted on the different things they are thankful for. They did a great job cutting and attending while working. After making their feather each student went up to the board to hang their feather for display! They really enjoyed each part of the activity. Have a great weekend! Miss Feeley
