Body Parts!

 

Hello Families!

Here comes a wonderful catch-up post for you! First of all, our friend Isabelle celebrated her 6th birthday in the beginning of January. Happy birthday Isabelle!!




We have been working hard and enjoying our new read aloud activities and stories. Last week we read "Sam & Penny" which reviewed basic parts of the body. We all used our communication devices to identify different core words and a part of the body on each page. 





Currently we're reading "Parts of the Body" book this week. Our current story is reinforcing body part identification. 





We sorted body parts vs NOT body parts by using yes/no on our communication devices and with visuals as well. They did a great job and it helped to reinforce our new concepts.





Another activity we completed was identify the 5 senses and which body part is used. They did a great job pointing to the body parts when requested. 









I also wanted to share some great pictures of the students hard at work with their academics!!




Isabelle is working on counting collections and then determining how many and which group has more. She also is working on identifying examples of "same" or "different". Isabelle is doing an AMAZING job!





Jayden is working SO hard on his fine motor skills- he did such a great job putting items in and putting his shapes into the puzzle!!! SO proud of him for his hard work!




Greyson did an excellent job identifying and sorting both shapes and numbers! He used his iPad throughout each activity. GO GREYSON GO!





Mikey is doing a super job with his counting page and using his BINGO marker to put "spots" on Clifford. He is using his iPad to identify colors during math activities. AWESOME job Mikey!







We've had a BUSY but great two weeks, more to come next week!

The Butterfly Life Cycle

Hello Families and Friends! Last week we read about the butterfly life cycle! We read a story, completed a vocabulary activity, then sorted butterflies, cocoons and caterpillars, made a life cycle wheel, an adapted book and then did a comprehension check-in. The students did an excellent job learning about this new information.                   We also completed a Scholastic News article "When a Rainbow Shines". The students were very engaged in the article and used their individualized communication boards and systems to be able to identify the two things needed to make a rainbow: water & sun. Pumpkin Fun!

  Hello Families! We had an awesome week and started our pumpkin unit in celebration of Halloween! We read a story all about pumpkins and learned when they grow, who grows them and the different parts of a pumpkin. Together we did a vocabulary activity, sorting activity, counting book, explored the inside of a pumpkin and did a fun craft together! They all loved being able to explore the different sized pumpkins while we read to make real life connections to our book! Below our friends are working on sorting by size, color and their vocabulary pages! They did a great job with their counting book- we practiced following one step directions, 1:1 correspondence, number ID, writing numbers, cutting and gluing.  On Wednesday we explored the inside of a pumpkin! Everyone explored the pulp and seeds. There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves!

Hello Families! This week we read the story "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves". I created our own "old lady" to feed the different objects to. The students practiced identifying vocabulary, working on the core word "in", and following simple one step directions. We completed our vocabulary activity, made our own adapted book and completed an emergent reader about leaves to connect with our story.    On Monday there was a fire safety assembly and we were able to see a real fire truck too! We've officially started our classroom jobs! These are done daily, each child has the same job for the whole week so that they can master that specific skill set before moving onto the next job. Here's our hard workers in action!! To wrap up our fun Friday, we did a Scholastic News titled "Cooking Up Safety". It was about being safe around hot objects.
