Turkey, Turkey, What Do You See?

Hello Families!

We had a great week wrapping up our pumpkin life cycle and starting our Thanksgiving Unit! Here's our fun, quick update! We made a chart to see the different stages of a pumpkin life cycle. As we were reading we'd correctly put each picture on the sentence strip to show exactly how a pumpkin grows. The kiddos learned a lot of new vocabulary and even did a comprehension check-in to demonstrate their knowledge.

On Wednesday we began our introduction to Thanksgiving unit with the story: "Turkey, Turkey, What Do You See?". While reading we used a static communication board where the students used pictures to help form a sentence, answer simple questions, or identify pictures that are the "same".

We read a Scholastic News article called:

Everyone took turns going up to the board to identify different fall vocabulary we've learned, numbers, colors, and various concepts. After we finished reading it on the projector we did a hard copy and used picture symbols to summarize the article. This was a very fun article to read because we could make so many connections from what we've learned so far this year about fall!

This month we started playing Thanksgiving BINGO! This is a great game that incorporates so many skills: picture identification, tracking, fine motor (when writing x's), identification of pictures that are the "same", turn taking and more

On Friday we had fun and made paper bag pumpkins! It was a great sensory activity where we first crumbled pieces of newspaper into a ball and put it into our brown paper bag. Once it was filled, we put tape around the top to make a stem. Lastly we painted our pumpkins orange with a green stem! Everyone enjoyed our fun activity!

This upcoming week we'll be reading our first Thanksgiving Book with some fun connecting activities!

Have a great day!
Miss Feeley
