Orcas, Orcas, Ocras, Everywhere!
February 25, 2019
Hello Families and Friends!

Last week we wrapped up our Winter Unit by learning about Orcas. We learned and completed our new vocabulary activity, labeled the parts of an Orca and then sorted them by size. This Winter Unit has been one of my favorites so far this year! The students really were very engaged when learning about animals. From their reactions and interest I plan on creating future units to include animals and learning different fun facts! In honor of Read Across America Day, we are learning about Dr. Seuss and reading some of his most popular stories!
This week we also read the Scholastic News article "Up, Up, Up!" This was a GREAT connection and support to the core word of the week "up" that they were working on. The students really enjoy reading the different articles and then they are able to demonstrate their comprehension through labeling of pictures. Some friends label with pictures using sounds, textures and the use of an adapted switches too!
This school year, one of the things I am most proud of is the significant increase of inclusion for all students. There are all different types of inclusion occurring: grade level academic, specials, whole class social inclusion and reverse inclusion. One of my favorite parts of the week is when 5th grade students come into the classroom on Fridays to read to us. They've all truly developed relationships with each of the students. 5th graders are learning so much about our students and now feel comfortable running our reading circle and have each of our students participating in an individualized way.
I hope you all have a great week!!
Miss Feeley
