Fun Catch Up!

 


Hello Families!!

I hope everyone had a restful and fun April break! We have a LOT to catch up on! Prior to vacation we started our spring animal unit and began with the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". We did a lot of fun connecting activities which included letter sounds, picture matching, sorts and simple comprehension. 










Mrs. Dorsey did an excellent job and organized a school wide planting day! Everyone enjoyed playing in the dirt! I can't wait to see our seeds sprout!





We went on a Farm Field Trip!!! Last week we walked to a farm down the road from school. We were able to see so many animals up close and even got to pet some! The kids LOVED interacting with the animals- it was so sweet to see
















We ended our fun week with an Easter Egg hunt which Mrs. Zucker included us in! The kids had a blast searching for the different eggs. 







Part of reading week was "camp out with a good book", our PTA gave everyone flashlights to have and use. The kids loved "camping out" in the hallway with comfy bean bags and reading some favorite books. 










We read and learned about the life cycle of a butterfly, I bought us our own little caterpillars to grow into butterflies! It'll be so fun to watch them grow and change right in front of our eyes!

Hello Families and Friends! Last week we read about the butterfly life cycle! We read a story, completed a vocabulary activity, then sorted butterflies, cocoons and caterpillars, made a life cycle wheel, an adapted book and then did a comprehension check-in. The students did an excellent job learning about this new information.                   We also completed a Scholastic News article "When a Rainbow Shines". The students were very engaged in the article and used their individualized communication boards and systems to be able to identify the two things needed to make a rainbow: water & sun. Pumpkin Fun!

  Hello Families! We had an awesome week and started our pumpkin unit in celebration of Halloween! We read a story all about pumpkins and learned when they grow, who grows them and the different parts of a pumpkin. Together we did a vocabulary activity, sorting activity, counting book, explored the inside of a pumpkin and did a fun craft together! They all loved being able to explore the different sized pumpkins while we read to make real life connections to our book! Below our friends are working on sorting by size, color and their vocabulary pages! They did a great job with their counting book- we practiced following one step directions, 1:1 correspondence, number ID, writing numbers, cutting and gluing.  On Wednesday we explored the inside of a pumpkin! Everyone explored the pulp and seeds. There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves!

Hello Families! This week we read the story "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves". I created our own "old lady" to feed the different objects to. The students practiced identifying vocabulary, working on the core word "in", and following simple one step directions. We completed our vocabulary activity, made our own adapted book and completed an emergent reader about leaves to connect with our story.    On Monday there was a fire safety assembly and we were able to see a real fire truck too! We've officially started our classroom jobs! These are done daily, each child has the same job for the whole week so that they can master that specific skill set before moving onto the next job.
