Welcome Fall!
Hello Families!!
Welcome to our classroom blog!! I'll be updating each Friday afternoon to share with you the fun activities we did that week. The past two weeks we've been learning about apples and the apple life cycle. As a class we read an adapted book about apples each day. This helps for the students to acquire new vocabulary and work on their communication.
While reading, each student takes a turn pointing to certain pictures and answering questions using PECs. This works on their comprehension, following simple directions, and attention.
Last week we coordinated with our amazing occupational therapist, Mrs. Griffin and did apple prints with paint! It was great to see each student explore the flesh of the apple and try to find the seeds in the middle.
We also love reading Scholastic News articles. I project them onto our whiteboard and create an interactive lesson. There's videos that we watch- this week I paused them and had the students find certain things like: apples, flowers, seeds, apple trees and pies! This helps them generalize their vocabulary and see the pictures in different context.
This Friday we finished our apple unit by making an apple life cycle craft. Each step of the craft helped to focus on different skills like: fine motor by color, cutting and glueing. They also had to use their vocabulary to correctly order to life cycle. Everyone did a GREAT job!
I hope everyone has had a great weekend!!
