Catching Up!!




Hello Friends and Families, 
I apologize for the lack of updates in 2020 so far!!! I will be more timely with my updates moving forward! I've been distracted working with these 6 AMAZING kiddos! Looking back to September, all of the students have made significant progress, I'm so proud of them!

Last week we read the Scholastic news article: "Follow the Fox". I projected the article to allow for a more hands on and engaging lesson. We read the article several times throughout the week. The students circled the different animals and identified ones that were camouflaged in the snow. Some friends used switches to participate and had tactile objects to represent the fox and additional animals.







The students have all been enjoying social inclusion with their 5th grade peers. The past two weeks, we have been playing hockey in our general PE class and have been able to show off our skills to the 5th graders. 






 



We are continuing to read our story Mouse & the Motorcycle. This week we used our core words to label pictures of Ralph hiding "under" the bed and "in" the pile of sheets.

Hello Families and Friends! Last week we read about the butterfly life cycle! We read a story, completed a vocabulary activity, then sorted butterflies, cocoons and caterpillars, made a life cycle wheel, an adapted book and then did a comprehension check-in. The students did an excellent job learning about this new information.                   We also completed a Scholastic News article "When a Rainbow Shines". The students were very engaged in the article and used their individualized communication boards and systems to be able to identify the two things needed to make a rainbow: water & sun. Pumpkin Fun!

  Hello Families! We had an awesome week and started our pumpkin unit in celebration of Halloween! We read a story all about pumpkins and learned when they grow, who grows them and the different parts of a pumpkin. Together we did a vocabulary activity, sorting activity, counting book, explored the inside of a pumpkin and did a fun craft together! They all loved being able to explore the different sized pumpkins while we read to make real life connections to our book! Below our friends are working on sorting by size, color and their vocabulary pages! They did a great job with their counting book- we practiced following one step directions, 1:1 correspondence, number ID, writing numbers, cutting and gluing.  On Wednesday we explored the inside of a pumpkin! Everyone explored the pulp and seeds. There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves!

Hello Families! This week we read the story "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves". I created our own "old lady" to feed the different objects to. The students practiced identifying vocabulary, working on the core word "in", and following simple one step directions. We completed our vocabulary activity, made our own adapted book and completed an emergent reader about leaves to connect with our story.    On Monday there was a fire safety assembly and we were able to see a real fire truck too! We've officially started our classroom jobs! These are done daily, each child has the same job for the whole week so that they can master that specific skill set before moving onto the next job.
