"Thanksgiving Is For Giving Thanks"

  Hello Families!! This week we read the story: Throughout the book I put picture symbols of core words or vocabulary that we're working on throughout the week: thankful, family, sun, friends, Thanksgiving, thank you. This allows for the students to listen to the story but also have visual supports throughout to support comprehension and understanding. As we read the story we completed various activities: vocabulary introduction, sorting, writing book, and a fun craft.  We turkeys using coffee filters. The students first used markers to draw a design or lines and then sprayed it with a water bottle to make the colors bleed into a fun new design. It was a great fine motor activity that incorporated color identification and counting too! Turkey, Turkey, What Do You See?

  Hello Families! We had a great week wrapping up our pumpkin life cycle and starting our Thanksgiving Unit! Here's our fun, quick update! We made a chart to see the different stages of a pumpkin life cycle. As we were reading we'd correctly put each picture on the sentence strip to show exactly how a pumpkin grows. The kiddos learned a lot of new vocabulary and even did a comprehension check-in to demonstrate their knowledge. On Wednesday we began our introduction to Thanksgiving unit with the story: "Turkey, Turkey, What Do You See?". While reading we used a static communication board where the students used pictures to help form a sentence, answer simple questions, or identify pictures that are the "same". We read a Scholastic News article called: Everyone took turns going up to the board to identify different fall vocabulary we've learned, numbers, colors, and various concepts.
