Frog & Toad Are Friends!

Image
Hello Families! Hope everyone had a great week! We are currently reading an adapted version of Frog and Toad Are Friends. It's one of my favorites and also a Caldecott medal book too; which is awarded  to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children! Above is a sample of how the stories are presented to the students. I have simplified the story to just include the most important concepts and details from the story to ensure their understanding. Each word/sentence is composed of picture symbols to support their reading and word identification. While reading, I'll often stop in the middle of the sentences to have students read the words or identify the pictures. My friends that are visually impaired have objects to represent the characters and also switches to be able to participate and identify key characters.  Important Dates to Remember: SSELAC ( Smithfield Special Education Local Advisory Commit...

Some friends have tactile symbols to represent the weather to create understanding. They also have adapted graphs where they put on raised textured stickers.  Then, the students identify what our daily special is. Some students use symbols, while other friends are using tactile symbols to represent  each of our four specials.  Friday afternoons we have our 5th grade peers come into our classroom for reverse inclusion. The 5th graders come in to read to us. We sit together as a big group and each 5th grader takes a turn reading a page an...

Smiles and Super Bowl Sunday

Hello Families! We've had a fun week full of smiles and learning too and I was lucky enough to be able to capture a few of these moments.  This week News-2-You had an adapted article about the Super Bowl! The students were all very engaged and enjoyed coming up to circle important key words. Everyone did an excellent job on their comprehension questions too.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
