Farewell Mr. Popper's Penguins!

Hello Families, Last week we officially finished our group read aloud book, Mr. Popper's Penguins. This was a great change of pace for us as a classroom. We've done a lot of themed units in the past, but we're going to be transitioning into reading more adapted chapter books. The students really LOVED reading this story and did a great job with their comprehension of the material as well, I was very impressed! This was such a great and engaging book for the students to read, it allowed for hands on activities and supports to increase comprehension and understanding. When we return from winter break we will be starting our new adapted book, The Mouse and the Motorcycle.    More holiday fun updates later this week! Have a great day, Miss Feeley

Gobble Gobble, Do the Turkey Wobble!

Hello Families! We had a great week celebrating Thanksgiving, it was filled with stories and interactive activities.  (Please excuse the long update, we've been busy this week!!) We kicked off our week by reading one of my favorite stories, Turkey Trouble. Some friends used communication pages and large pictures, while others used tactile objects to represent animals and switches in order to participate and answer questions throughout. The students then sequenced the different animals turkey tried to dress up as and then completed a comprehension activity too.  We made a fun turkey craft and painted our hands to make feathers! It was funny to see their initial reactions to the cold wet paint.  We the read the Scholastic News Article, Season to Be Thankful. The students enjoyed having the article first displayed on our projector in order to make it more engaging and hands on.  ...
